Spicy Artichoke Tomato Sauce

Serves 4


  • 1 can artichoke hearts (400g) ca 8-10 artichoke hearts, washed and drained
  • 1 big onion peeled and quartered
  • 3 cloves of garlic peeled
  • 1 carrot peeled and roughly chopped
  • 2 small chili peppers or 1 big one, roughly chopped
  • 1 handful fresh parsley
  • 500 ml sieved tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp. tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp. dried oregano
  • 1/2 tbsp. dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil


  1. Add washed and drained artichoke hearts, quartered onion, garlic cloves, chopped carrot, chopped chili peppers, and parsley to a food processor and blend until everything is smooth
  2. Heat olive oil (enough to cover the bottom) to a saucepan over medium heat
  3. Add artichoke paste from the food processor to the hot saucepan and stir well
  4. Cook for about 2-3 minutes
  5. Add tomato paste, sieved tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil and some salt and pepper and stir well
  6. Cook for 5-6 minutes over medium-low heat, stir regularly
  7. Add more salt or pepper if needed and serve with your favorite pasta
